WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LED LIGHTS?
There are a number of advantages.

ARE POWERFUL LEDS HOT?
The primary advantage of LEDs is the efficiency. They are over 95% efficient, which means that most of the power supplied to the LED is delivered as light. More importantly, it's not delivered as heat. To put this in perspective, traditional tungsten lighting is 10% efficient, meaning that a 100W light bulb only emits 10W of light, and a whopping 90W of heat! to get the same light, only a 10W LED would be required, with absolutely negligable heat given off.
I'VE SEEN LEDS FLASHING/ PULSING. DO PHOTOFLOODS LIGHTS FLASH?
In short - No. They're totally flicker free; not even a slight variation (like tungsten or fluorescent), making them perfect for filming of all kinds, especially high speed imaging.

That is, unless you want them to! Some LEDs can be pulsed, with a device such a camera to drive them. There are advantages in doing this. Ask us why.
I'M USED TO LIGHT OUTPUTS IN WATTS. THE FIGURES HERE ARE LUMENS. WHY IS THIS?
For decades, we’ve been buying light bulbs according to wattage. But as energy-efficient, low-watt light bulbs like CFLs and LEDs have become readily available, watts have become an unreliable metric for selecting bulbs. Instead of focusing on wattage, which measures power or energy use, manufacturers are indicating the brightness of their energy-efficient bulbs according to lumens, which measure light output. So while we may be accustomed to shopping for lights according to wattage, lumens are actually a more accurate measurement of how bright your light will be.

HOW MANY LUMENS ARE IN A WATT?
Because lumens measure brightness and watts measure energy output, there is no simple method for converting wattage to lumens. With energy-efficient lighting like LEDs and CFLs, how many lumens are in a 60W bulb or 100W bulb depends on the lumen output of the bulb, not its energy use.
Don’t despair! Measuring and labelling light output instead of energy use actually makes it easier for you to find the right lighting for your application.
IF LUMENS IS LIGHT OUTPUT, WHAT IS LUX??
Lux is the light intensity received at the subject, and can easily be measured with a lux meter. A Lux figure given to a light source is measured 1m from the light source. As well as being dependant on the light source itself, the beam angle makes a significant difference. If a beam has twice the beam angle compared to another light of the same lumen output, it will produce a quarter of the intensity of light (lux) falling on your subject.
